Week 6 – FMP

1. Context:

I spent this week finalizing script v3 by changing lines I no longer thought fit the overall vibe and pacing of the script.

2. Research:

Technical: Word Doc.

Story: Went through the story structure of the Film/Book. e.g.

Stylistic: Similar to videos done by The Cosmonaut Variety Hour.

3. Practical Skills:

4. Evaluation & Reflection:

WWW – Good pacing

WWW – Doesn’t confuse the plot

WWW – Makes decent points

EBI – Overlay some footage

EBI – Ensure all recorded audio is clear

EBI – Don’t make video too long.

Action Plan:

Step 1:

Researching the film and listing down facts (attached to research). Watch the DVD on the behind the scenes. List lots of Rotten Tomatoes scores. Use both critique scores and audience scores. Watch Mr. Sundays video/ Weekly Planet Pod and use some of his trivia.

Step 2:

Complete first draft. Go through with all 23 people I have to check with to decide on pacing and the script itself.

Complete second draft. Again go through with people.

Start a second alternative script with a slightly different tone, present both to group to decide which has a better tone for the video, which flows better and reads better.

Step 3:

Finish final third draft, make final changes according to group and get a few extra opinions from people I haven’t showed it to.

Step 4:

Download all B-roll, the DVD with BTS and the actual film. Edit together on Premiere Pro and have relevant scenes with relevant lines. Most footage will be decided upon as I write.

Week 5 – FMP

1. Context:

Further developed the script and had a friend go through them with me to get a second opinion on the scripts pacing.

2. Research:

Technical: Word Doc.

Story: Went through the story structure of the Film/Book. e.g.

Stylistic: Similar to videos done by The Cosmonaut Variety Hour.

3. Evaluation:

WWW:

  • Covers the whole film well.
  • Has decent jokes.
  • Good use of B-Roll

EBI:

  • Make pacing a bit faster.
  • Use different rotten tomatoes scores.
  • Show copyright infringement.

Week 4 – FMP

1. Context:

I have decided to write another script whilst writing this one with a slight alteration in tone. This was first due to me forgetting to email myself the script but now I’ve decided to work on both so I can show people both and use whichever flows better or reads better.

2. Research:

Technical: Word Document.

Story:  Went through the story structure of the Film/Book. e.g.

Stylistic: Similar to videos done by The Cosmonaut Variety Hour.

3. Evaluation:

WWW: Has intro done, and first two acts of the film done.

WWW: Shown to 23 people, all said was decent.

WWW: Explains my points clearly.

EBI: Am working on two scripts at the same time to have a mix of pacing and flow to see which is best at the end.

EBI: Make intro slightly more captivating.

EBI: Include more B-roll instead of just BTS footage.

Week 1 – FMP

1. Context:

I started my FMP this week. For my FMP I am doing a commentary critique on a film, I am going to discuss the production, pre production, writing and just overall points about the film both before and after release.

2. Research:

Technical: AT2020 Mic, Microsoft Word and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Story: A critique on the film Twilight.

Stylistic: Similar to videos done by the creator Cosmonaut Variety Hour.

Story Research:

The story of the video will be structured to take the viewer chronologically through the film whilst discussing the behind the scenes. After, being done with going through the story I will give off shoot facts about the film and discuss how it was received.

The script structure will be split into 3 parts to make each talking point clear and thought out. My script will avoid spending most of its time just summarizing the film and just explaining what happened.

The analysis of the film will have its own structure of moving through the story beats of the film.

1. Introduction:

The video will start with me introducing the film and giving off a few facts for example who was originally cast as Edward and Bella or issues with production before filming began. Ill talk about the film maker and writers. Then ill move onto the analysis by ending with a thesis statement.

2. Analysis:

I will then move through the structure of the film going through each act/ of the film. My script will move in and out of the film itself and the filming. This will give my analysis structure and flow. Having my script go chronologically through the film contextualizes what I’m talking about making it easy to follow. That lets me just talk instead of having to explain what section of the film I’m referring to. When getting to the end of my analysis re enforce the initial point about the film to bring it full circle.

3. Conclusion:

After discussing the whole of the film ill move onto discussing how it was received, audience reviews and ill close with how the franchise progressed and where they are today.

Stylistic Research:

I am going to have my video similar to the style of the creator Cosmonaut Variety Hour. His style is a recorded commentary with overlaid footage from either the film itself or from behind the scenes and then jump cuts to anything that’s relevant to what I am talking about.

Another content creator who makes similar content in a style that I would have mine close to is Mr. Sunday. He makes usually 10 – 20 minute commentary videos and has his editor overlay footage. Most of his commentary is also taken straight from his Podcast. This shows how I could edit and reuse my commentary and media content for multiple platforms and pieces of content.
